Jet Li battles the White Snake

(The Sorcerer and the White Snake) It was either “Abduction” starring Taylor Lautner or “Contagion” starring Matt Damon as I stood in front of the GSC display board advertising all the movies currently being screened.

Then suddenly, Jet Li’s name showed up. I was hooked. “The Sorceror and the White Snake” it was then, I decided.

I haven’t seen Jet Li for so long that I was beginning to miss him. Never mind, he is posing as a monk again. With Jet Li, it is almost never dull.

This is an old tale which has been remade with a generous helping of modern twists. The “White Snake or Serpent” films were made in 1956, 1958 and 1962.

Most middle-aged folks would probably remember “Madame White Snake” which was produced by the Shaw Brothers in 1962.

Since then, there have been numerous TV versions of the story. These were in 1990, 1992, 1995, 1998, 2001 and 2005.
