Because of the adult concepts within it. And the surrealist atmosphere. There is also one very disturbing scene where a man is cut in half by a propeller. But really it is that no one much younger would understand it.It is a very complex film. Much better

I think most westerners aren't that familiar with Armenians for obvious reasons. Armenia was until recently a part of Soviet Union and isolated behind the so called "Iron Curtain", where Soviet Republics where obliged not to involve themselves with the capitalist world. That's why a lot of Armenians are still not so well known in the western world. But to more culturally intellectual people names like Ivan Aivazovsky and Sergei Parajanov are not unfamiliar.
