Black History Month celebration features noted artist: Global Village

In celebration of Black History Month, David Driskell, an artist and world-renowned scholar of African-American art, will speak at a noontime worship service on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the United Church of Christ's Amistad Chapel, 700 Prospect Ave. in downtown Cleveland.
Driskell has exhibited his own works and lectured about art throughout the world. In 1998, the University of Maryland established the David C. Driskell Center for the Study of the African Diaspora, honoring his 44-year career as an artist, educator, philanthropist, collector and historian.
In 2000, President Bill Clinton presented Driskell with the National Humanities Medal, noting that Driskell ". . . has focused attention on black artists, sparking worldwide interest among art lovers, critics and historians and enriching the cultural heritage and history of our nation."
Combating domestic violence: Asian Services in Action Inc., a nonprofit group working to empower Northeast Ohio's Asian immigrants and refugees, has launched a program to address domestic violence in the Asian community.
