Forbus grew up in a farm just north of Luthersville in Coweta County. Her paternal grandmother was a Hunter -- giving her dozens of cousins in south Coweta. After she married Hubbard Forbus, they lived in Moreland, in a home that belonged to Miss Victoria Camp, for awhile.
Then they moved to Columbus, moving back north in 1972 to the Meriwether County hamlet of Lone Oak. With them came their daughter, Lisa, who was then in elementary school.
On Tuesday, a reception was held in Jeanne Forbus's honor in the Meriwether County Commission Chambers in Greenville. The honoree was accompanied to the ceremonies by her twin sister, Jeanette O'Neal of Luthersville. During the proceedings, she sat on the front row between her sister and daughter Lisa Davis.
"We are extremely proud of your years of service to Meriwether County," Jones to Forbus.
"It's a special time at any time when it's retirement time," Jones said. Jones said Forbus spent "25 years here with Meriwether County -- devoted her life to this place -- and loved it."
