Local Woman No Stranger to Medical Adversity

Donations are still coming in to benefit a Morton Grove woman who has dealt with a gamut of health issues throughout her life.
When the Morton Grove Lion’s Club heard about Patricia Heelan's struggles, they organized a benefit at the Morton Grove Family Center to raise money for the 51-year-old woman who’s fought through hardship.
Kim Connelly, a Morton Grove resident whose father is a Lion’s Club member, went to the Lion’s Club to tell them about Heelan after one of Heelan’s sisters told her that Medicare and Medicaid weren’t covering the entirety of Heelan’s health care costs.
Planning for the benefit began in April, and included a bake sale, a bag toss tournament and a pig roast for dinner.
“I think we did good,” Connelly said. “All the silent auctions went, all the raffles went. A great band came in and it got very lively in there. I don’t have all the numbers yet … but we wanted to give her two years of living expenses.”
