Andrew Holness seems to be coasting on the rather catchy phrase: 'A young people time now', as P.J. Patterson did with his supporters' slogan, 'A black man time now', back in 1992.

The question is: Can Holness repeat Patterson's 1993 conquest in an upcoming election, which Portia Simpson Miller failed to do in 2007?

Political historian Troy Caine is of the view that the jaded nature of political leaders in both the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People's National Party (PNP) has put Holness in good stead for the upcoming general election.

"The JLP has a better balance vis-à-vis the quantity of younger people in the party as against older people," said Caine.

He said, although the JLP has quite a number of younger people, a significant number of older ones are allowed to remain in prominent positions in the party.

He said, to a lesser extent, the same goes for the PNP.
