Future Ben Affleck, Matt Damon Oscar Nods For Boston Gangster Film?
31.12.69
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck haven't been in a movie together since 1999's "Dogma." Although Damon has received an Oscar nomination for his work in "Invictus," Affleck's acting and directing have been snubbed by the Academy. Could a new film they are set to produce see more Oscars -- or at least nominations -- in their future?
Affleck and Damon, Oscar winners in 1997 for Best Original Screenplay for "Good Will Hunting," will soon be working together on a new project. Damon and Affleck have taken on roles that just might send them back to the Academy Awards ceremony in a few years via a similar Boston area set vehicle. That vehicle, according to Deadline , is a film about the life of the notorious Boston gangster, Whitey Bulger.
And who better to than two childhood friends who grew up listening to stories about the notorious criminal (who recently made headlines for his capture in California )? Making and starring movies centered around Boston has been a successful award recipe for the both Damon and Affleck, who both spent much of their formative years in nearby Cambridge. According to the entertainment site, Affleck was tapped to direct and co-star in the film with Damon taking on the lead role as Bulger. Another alum from the "Good Will Hunting" movie, Affleck's younger brother, Casey, will also appear in the film.
