Some of the movies that generated buzz at this year's Milwaukee Film Festival are coming back fast - to UWM Union Theater, 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd.
"City of Life and Death," a black-and-white account of the Japanese army's attack on Nanking in 1937; showing at 7 p.m. Friday, 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday, and 3 and 6 p.m. Sunday; admission is $6, $5 for seniors and UWM faculty, staff and alumni; and $4 for UWM students.
"The Last Mountain," a documentary about the impact of mountaintop-removal mining, 7 p.m. Wednesday; free.
"The Woman With the Five Elephants," a film about a Ukrainian translator and the dark turns her life has taken; 7 p.m. Thursday, free.
A Liz by any other name
"Elizabeth of Ladymead" is the story of one woman (sort of), four generations, four husbands - and four wars. The women, each of whom is named a variation of Elizabeth, welcome their spouses back from war into a world that has changed in their absence.
