Yankees GM Brian Cashman expected to get new contract

NEW YORK — While news reports circulate about the future of Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein — the longtime Yankees nemesis is reportedly on the verge of taking over the Chicago Cubs — it appears that Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is staying put.
Cashman has yet to speak with the team’s ownership group about his contract, which expires on Oct. 31, though an agreement seems to be a formality.
“Nothing has taken place whatsoever,” he said.
Both Cashman and Yankees president Randy Levine have said publicly that both sides are interested in continuing the relationship.
Cashman, who has spent his entire adult life with the organization, has been the team’s general manager since 1998.
Said Cashman: “Nothing has changed. It’s the same as August, the same as September, the same as May.”
As general manager, Cashman has overseen one of the most prosperous stretches in franchise history. Since the 1995 season, the Yankees have missed the playoffs only once.
