1911: An alert passenger: "Harry
Ostrander, of this city (Easton), proved himself a hero last evening when he
jumped into the Lehigh River and rescued a little boy, who no doubt would have
drowned in a very few minutes had it not been for the quick action of
Ostrander. The little boy was walking along Dock
Street, accompanied by a young girl, when they
were overtaken by a trolley car. The girl got safely to the road but, in order
to escape being hit by the trolley, it was necessary for the boy to jump down
the bank and he landed in the water. His plight was seen by Ostrander, who
leaped from the car and, without losing a moment's time, hurried down the steep
bank, waded into the water and carried the boy safely to shore. The little
fellow appeared none the worse for his experience."
