Dunstan Weston Kamana Remembered (1937 - 2009)
Oct 31, 2011 (The Times of Zambia/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) --
Dustan Weston Kamana who became the first Zambian Editor in Chief of the Times of Zambia and is to date one of the leading Zambian journalists was a non-swimmer.
Throughout his life, however, he was thrown into profession deep-ends.
But he did not drown. Nor had he to be rescued from the difficulty. He had a talent for survival in the tough, competitive business of journalism combined with politics.
The ability to keep his level head above water took Kamana from a rural family background to jet flying around the world capitals; into the confidence of President Kaunda and to the position of Editor in Chief of what was then Zambia's new newspaper organisation.
He was born in 1937 in Mang'uzi village some 40 miles from Choma in the southern province. Kamana was one of two sons. He was one of two pupils from his primary school to go forward to St. Mark's college at Mapanza where he did his forms one and two.
