Raghubir Yadav told to pay alimony to estranged wife

Renowned actor Raghubir Yadav, who depicted the poor and deprived farmer’s character in Peepli Live, presents a contrast in real life. Observing that Yadav earns handsomely at Rs 1.25 lakh per month, a city court has ordered him to pay a monthly alimony of Rs 40,000 to his estranged wife. The court said that successes of his recent movies Peepli Live and Gandhi to Hitler indicate he is doing well in commercial cinema and his contention that he earns Rs 2.26 lakh per annum is totally unbelievable.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sunena Sharma, while directing Yadav to pay a monthly alimony of Rs 40,000 to his wife from the date of its present order till the pendency of the case, said, “Having regard to the fact that respondent (Yadav) is a renowned actor of art films, TV serials and theatre and is doing well in commercial cinema after the success of his two latest hits Peepli Live and Gandhi to Hitler, I presume his average monthly income will not be less than Rs 1.25 lakh per month.”

Slumdog's dissenters: poverty on film in India Perhaps it's because pride is running high in a newly assertive country, and these are films made by outsiders; there have been Bollywood films set in shantytowns before, such as 1981's Chakra, 1988's Salaam Bombay!, and 1991's Dharavi, and they didn't
