* Peter Carey and JM Coetzee are the only novelists to have won the award twice. Carey for Oscar and Lucinda in 1988 and for the True History of the Kelly Gang in 2001. Coetzee for Life & Times of Michael K in 1983 and then again with Disgrace in 1999.
* The first female novelist to win the Booker Prize was Bernice Rubens, winning the award just a year after its inception, for The Elected Member in 1970. She served as a Booker Prize judge in 1986.
* The Booker Prize became a prize for the best book of the year in 1971 and therefore it ceased to be awarded retrospectively. The award also shifted from April to November and thus a wealth of literature from 1970 failed to be considered. In 2008 the Lost Man Booker Prize endeavored to recognize these forgotten works. The panel consisted of three judges, all of whom were born in or around 1970, and the winner was JG Farrell’s Troubles . Farrell had won the Booker Prize in 1973 for The Seige of Krishnapur.
