Born Mary Louise Streep on June 22, 1949 in Summit, New Jersey, her father was a pharmaceutical executive and her mother was an artist-turned-housewife who kept a studio behind the house. Meryl’s mother Mary Streep, died in 2001 and father Harry Streep, died in 2004. She had a younger sister and brother, Dana and Harry.
Meryl Streep took singing lessons at an early age and at age twelve she began studies to become an opera singer. After graduating from Vassar in 1971, Meryl enrolled in the Yale School of Drama to study acting where Sigourney Weaver and Christine Estabrook also studied.
