Muran review: Hitchcock-inspired thriller is a winner
02.10.11
Muran is a nice little thriller by debutant director Rajan Madhav.
The script and story have their obvious ‘inspiration’ from Hitchcock’s film, Strangers on a Train (1951), and is a sure winner in terms of entertainment value. The excellent leads from Prasanna and Cheran keep the audience glued to their seats.
The story is quite simple: two folks - Nandha and Arjun - completely unrelated, meet by sheer chance. Their lives are nowhere similar and yet strange circumstances demand that they bond. As the flashback unfolds, Nandha (Cheran) is an aspiring musician and is married to Indhu (Nikitha) who is involved in an extramarital affair. But he has an understanding girl friend, Lavanya (Hari Priya).
Arjun (Prasanna) is the son of a millionaire father and, simply put, a bad egg. He reckons that eliminating his father Devarajan (Jayaprakash) and Nandha’s wife would remove all their unhappiness in life and, hence, draws the reluctant Nandha into the scheme of things.
