Super Super Hero John Wayne

This entry not only reminded us of our ranching heritage, but the relationship of Liberty with the famous actor, John Wayne, who rang the Liberty Bell on our courthouse steps. And one should never forget the Alamo filmed in 1960 when Wayne directed and starred as David Crockett along with Gov. Bill Daniel who played two roles including Col. Neill.

This tribute to John Wayne struck a chord with us of the importance of the Southeast Texas cowboys who made the Texas cattle industry a backbone of our economy and the hard work associated with cattle.

Reminding us of our heritage is one of the primary reasons for the TVE since 1909. Its connections to the past, the Baby Parade, the Opening Day Parade and the Ranch Rodeo are the major components of this historical connection.

Even though John Wayne may not be a cartoon hero, there is no doubt that he embodied all of the characters of the American Super Hero from Superman to Wonder Women.

It has been a few years since Wayne made a movie, but he will always be remembered. If you doubt it, watch one of these: Flying Tigers (1942), Sands of Iwo Jima (1949), Flying Leathernecks (1951), The Searchers (1956), True Grit (1969), The Alamo (1960), The Green Berets (1968), and The Shootist (1976).
