Aronofsky to Direct Upcoming Noah Biblical Epic Movie

In the coming decade, children may not need Sunday school; parents who want their kids to have an understanding of the Bible will simply be able to take them to the movies.
In an odd trend that could suggest the next frontier of big-budget Hollywood movies (anyone get the feeling the superhero sagas are close to running their course?), many studios are announcing projects that could be filed under: Biblical epic.
The latest on the list is “Noah,” which will be directed by critically acclaimed auteur Darren Aronofsky. Paramount is fast-tracking the film, which will go into production by spring.
“Since I was a kid, I have been moved and inspired by the story of Noah and his family’s journey,” Aronofsky told Deadline.com. “The imaginations of countless generations have sparked this epic story of faith. It’s my hope that I can present a window into Noah’s passion and perseverance for the silver screen.”
Aronofsky burst onto the scene in the late ’90s with the ultra-low-budget “Pi.” Since hailed as part of the new wave of young, stylized filmmakers, Aronofsky directed 2008′s “The Wrestler” and last year scored an unlikely commercial hit with “Black Swan.” Aronofsky has long been fixated on the concept of Noah, even having penned a comic book that will be released in 2012.
