The University of Texas has cultivated athletic talent that has literally spread worldwide. In fact, 139 former UT student-athletes have won a total of 117 medals (57 gold/30 silver/16 bronze) in Olympic competition from 1936-2010.
Recently, these decorated athletes were invited back to the Forty Acres for the first ever UT Olympian Homecoming. The T-Association, in conjunction with The Texas Program in Sports and Media, hosted them at panels across the UT campus and also honored them on the field before the Texas Football team took on the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday, Oct. 29.
But more importantly, the occasion allowed for many current students to rub elbows with some of the most competitive student-athletes to have attended UT, and also glean knowledge from their experiences.
Last Friday, the returning Longhorns shared some of their personal Olympic stories, as well as provided insight into how the University of Texas prepared them for their Olympic successes in three different panel discussions located in various lecture halls around the UT Campus. The lecture halls were packed full of curious and anxious students looking to learn a few things.
