COBOURG/PORT HOPE — Great old movies are just one of the highlights of the 2011 Vintage Film Festival, held in Port Hope and Cobourg Oct. 28 to 30.
Not counting Christopher Joseph-Sudlow and Quinn McDermott, this year's winners of the 2011 Marie Dressler Scholarship who will be present Friday, Oct. 28 for the formal presentation of he award, there are two other important sets of visitors, chair Chris Worsnop said.
On Saturday, Oct. 29, board member Cathie Houston will lead a brown-bag-lunch discussion on motion-picture standards in the days before today's simple one-or-two-letter movie ratings.
"Cathie Houston is in the process of retiring from Universal Pictures Canada. She will make a presentation and lead a discussion on the motion-picture code known fondly as the Hays Code, a very, very biased document," Worsnop said.
The other set of visitors comes in anticipation of the festival's 20th year next year, he added.
"Fourth Line Theatre are having a play in next year's season about Marie Dressler. We have already made a cross-promotional agreement with them. They are advertising in our program this year to promote this upcoming attraction — this year was their 20th anniversary — and we are advertising in their program, and we are doing other things to support each other."
