It's not that we're lacking in the film-to-stage department nowadays, when it feels as if every other show is based on a movie. But when the transfer is as well executed as "Trouble in Paradise," I'd be the last to complain. The Hourglass Company's take on Ernst Lubitsch's 1932 Art Deco fantasia undeservedly flew under the radar in 2006. Too bad, because adapter David Simpatico, director Elyse Singer and their cast mostly did justice to that comedy, with an elegance that didn't betray the modest budget.
Luckily, on Monday 26 you get a chance to catch up as everybody's reconvening for a reading , to benefit the Acting Company . This means we can once again delight in the witty banter between Jeremy Shamos and Nina Hellman, playing the roles created by Herbert Marshall and Miriam Hopkins. Shamos is a busy guy: You may remember him from "Clybourne Park," "Elling," "The New York Idea," among many others, and he's about to co-star in Zoe Kazan's "We Live Here" at MTC.
